The Wolf Run training : Week 1

Week 1, continuing the overall training programme with an eye on The Wolf Run on 7 April…

Monday 25 March 2013

I was still tired when I woke up so did not do the Drill or plank, and I will do them this evening. I was in the office early for a conference call, so followed my usual morning routine. I need to make sure I am properly prepared because I will be running 4 miles at lunchtime, despite the snow still on the ground.  And another work meeting sends that one out of the window.  I am looking forward to Easter, just to get a break from the daily grind.  I ate a yoghurt, granola and honey pot for lunch, and have no idea what is happening for my evening meal.  Turned out to be an Innocent Mexican vegetable pot.  My eating life revolves around pots.

  1. Two-Minute Drill
  2. Plank

Tuesday 26 March 2013

I was too tired for the Drill this morning and I needed to leave early to drive to a meeting.  I am hoping the meeting will not be too long and because of its location and start time I will be going home from it, so I can put in some fitness work then and get out for a run.  I can feel things starting to sleep a bit.  Having said that, we are planning to go away for Easter and if we do that will involve a lot of walking and at least one mountain, so that will make me feel a lot better.  Of course, my morning routine has not been followed and I am currently typing this in a Holiday Inn while drinking a pot of tea.  More pots.  The meeting went over lunch and I had a couple of the tuna and sweetcorn sandwiches on brown bread.  I snacked when I got home before we went out to the cinema to see, and I had some popcorn.

Wednesday 27 March 2013

Another tired start to the day and I really feel like I need the Easter break to get away from everything.  I had another meeting this morning, so missed my usual routine again and drank a cup of tea at the meeting.  I was back in the office for lunch and ate a yoghurt, granola and honey pot.  I have managed to clear off a few personal things which have been nagging at me recently, and will clear another couple this evening, and I think that will take a weight off my shoulders.  I then just need to clear a couple of work matters which are causing me some stress.  Once I have done that I know I will be in a better place to kick on with the exercise regime.  We had a Chinese takeaway in the evening.

Thursday 28 March 2013

I had a conference call first thing in the morning, and then packed for our weekend away, so I did not do any exercise.  I expect to be doing more than enough exercise over the long weekend, even if it will not include any running.  I managed to avoid eating loads of junk food during the drive down to Teignmouth, and we went for a walk along the front when we got there, and then snacked in the evening.

Friday 29 March 2013

We were staying in a bed and breakfast and for my breakfast each morning I had a bowl of muesli, a glass of orange juice, a cup of tea, a sausage, a fried egg, two rashers of bacon, baked beans, and a slice of toast with butter and strawberry jam.  Friday morning was spent walking around Pennywell Farm before going to Combe House for lunch.  You can read all about those here.  My afternoon was spent hiking on Haytor, and you can read about that here.  We snacked in the evening.

  1. Walk – 2 miles

Saturday 30 March 2013

We took a trip on the Dartmouth Steam Railway on Saturday morning, which included a walk around Dartmouth harbour.  You can read about that here.  In the afternoon I took a hike around Hound Tor which you can read about here, and in the evening we went out for a curry.

  1. Walk
  2. Walk – 4 miles

Sunday 31 March 2013

We went to the Crab Shack for lunch and I had the crab soup and crab sandwich duo.  You can read all about it here.

Positives from this week – I had a good break away from it all and I very much enjoyed getting back to doing some hiking.
