I am sure it will come as a surprise to all who know me that I was taking part in a Skype call, but needs must. I made sure not to turn it off once I had turned it on. So it is probably still running… The call was with David Elliott, CEO/Artists & Repertoire of Bad Elephant Music, Simon Godfrey of Tinyfish and Shineback (and signed to BEM for the purposes of Shineback), and Matt Stevens of Matt Stevens and The Fierce And The Dead (who are also a BEM artist now).
The intention of the call was to discuss things. Let me find the memo… The intention of the call was to discuss social media ideas. That would be the book of face, then. I know about all this stuff.
And that is why we had cunningly enlisted the services of the genius that is Matt Stevens. If anyone knows how to utilise social media from a musical point of view, it is him. If anyone claims to know more than Matt Stevens about the effective utilisation of social media within music, they are lying. We at BEM may well come across as a bunch of jokers who are much more at home with being distracted by ducks than
than putting together a marketing plan, but that is not the case. Did anyone else see those ducks ? Really, that is not the case, so stop laughing at the back. And at the front. Matt had provided us with an outline of how to grow an online audience without compromising the artistic vision behind both BEM and Shineback, and we wanted to discuss how the ideas we already had could fit in with that. This would also serve us well when we came to the promotion stage of the next release from The Fierce And The Dead. We started the call at 1930 and finished around 2130, occasionally going off topic, losing Matt from the call just the once, and with only myself being deprived of Simon’s profile photo, so we will put it down as a resounding success. You should look out for the results of the call because they will be hitting your facebook and twitter and myspace (do we do myspace ?) sooner than you can imagine. Probably even before you have read this blog.
The Shineback album is now available to pre-order from The Merch Desk, and for a limited period of time you can also take advantage of a very special offer on the cd and tshirt bundle and save yourself some money. I have set up this blog so that I can see if you have not clicked through to pre-order, but do not let that influence your decision. To access the pre-order at The Merch Desk you need to click HERE.
