Week 8, and I need to keep things going while I am in Sweden with work…
This week’s blog is brought to you by Sean Bean.
Monday 21 April 2014
It was the Easter bank holiday so we went for a walk in the sun around Whitwell which you can read about here.
- Walk – 6 miles – 2 hours 24 minutes (loaded 37lbs)
Tuesday 22 April 2014
I was flying out to Sweden with work in the evening and would not be getting back until Friday lunchtime. The hotel we would be staying in has a gym and I want to try to get in a couple of runs, so I packed my running gear. I was busy with work through the day and we did not arrive in Sweden until late, so there was no exercise today. I made sure I ate properly instead.
Wednesday 23 April 2014
I woke up and did some plank. It was easy enough but I do need to be doing that on a consistent basis and building up the time. I ate a couple of boiled eggs for breakfast and took some apples and bananas with me to our meeting. There was more fruit at the meeting. I did not drink enough during the day but when I got back to the hotel I decided I would still go out for my run. I did not have a route planned but being in Sweden I decided I had to do a Fartlek run, and that I would run for an hour, hoping that would see me cover 6 miles. The advantage with this was that I did not need a route and could just run around the town, and it was interesting to see some different parts as I did run, at times running alongside the river, at other times running alongside main roads, going past the Boras Arena, where some football training was going on, coming back into the shopping area, running along some residential streets, rising up to some sort of castle tower, and eventually circling around until I came back to my starting point at the hotel. You can read some more about my run here. The GPS on my Strava appeared to go wrong (again) because I started and finished at the same point but it did not show that, and it showed me as having run 5.8 miles in 57 minutes and 47 seconds, while I know from my watch that I ran for 1 hour and 1 minute. So I ran at least 5.8 miles, which is good enough, and more importantly I ran for over an hour, which was what I intended to do. It had been colder out than it looked, especially in the shadows out of the sun, and I had run over all manner of surfaces. Unfortunately, at one point I had had to run over some loose rubble and that seemed to hurt my left heel. My left knee was also feeling a little stiff and I hoped that would pass. I ate some cashew nuts when I got back to my hotel room, but had not brought any flaxseed or maca with me, and I hoped I would not regret that.
- Plank – 120 seconds
- Run (Sweden) – Fartlek
Thursday 24 April 2014
I woke up with my left knee aching so I tried stretching it out and would try to keep it moving through the day. It turned into a very long day with no exercise.

Another long day which was not helped by the M25 on my return to Heathrow. This had not been the best week of preparation for the weekend I had ahead of me.
