Week 12 and I finally have a road to recovery…
This week’s blog is brought to you by Jack, because I had an appointment with the psychophysio. Oh.
Monday 23 March 2015
I finally managed to go and see a physio. I went to the Orchard Clinic in St Albans and it was excellent. It came as no surprise to learn that I have tight hamstrings, and that I had pushed them and my ITB too far. Fortunately I had not torn anything, and I now have a way forward. My plan of action is as follows :
- Stretching
- Foam rolling
- Sports massage
- Strengthen my gluteus medius
- Yoga
- Check the suitability of my running footwear
Tuesday 24 March 2015
As well as my stretching and foam rolling, I would continue to use the circuit from week 8 of the Spartan Paratrooper (High Level) Programme of The Para Fitness Guide (taking the repetitions up to 25 from 24), which meant 4 x 25 press ups, 4 x 25 dips, 4 x 25 sit ups, 4 x 25 squats, and 4 x 70 second planks.

I was over in Paris with work for a couple of days, and in the evening we enjoyed a walking tour along the Seine from La Louvre to Notre Dame, before heading off to a restaurant for dinner. It was too late to do my circuit by the time we got back to the hotel, after having a walk with our cases for the length of La Defense.
- Walk (Paris) – 3 miles – 2 hours 12 minutes 14 seconds
Thursday 26 March 2015
I was travelling back from Paris and was too tired to do anything by the time I got home.
Friday 27 March 2015
I was busy working but managed to get in a circuit. I also had a very interesting conference call about the 100 Peaks Challenge. You will be hearing a lot more about that soon (and on into 2017).

Saturday 28 March 2015
It was another day of rest after a long working week, although that is not how I would have liked it to have been. There was another nav ex with Avalanche Endurance Events down in the Brecon Beacons and I would have preferred to have been there.
Sunday 29 March 2015
I woke up and made sure I started with my circuit. I am finding it very frustrating to still not be able to just get out there and go for a run. In the evening I received an email from Avalanche Endurance Events setting out the weight requirements and order of march for Iron Man, so that cheered me up.

Positives from this week – I now have a plan to rehabilitate and get me back to full training.
