I woke up early because my back was aching, which is no longer a surprise.  I slept in an upright position, which seemed to help as I slept through longer, but that was done through necessity because I find it impossible to lie down.  I worked from home because I did not fancy driving for an hour each way with my back feeling like this, and that just added to my frustration because I was not able to do any exercise.  Having said that, it was raining outside so at least I got to stay dry.  Looking at the way my body is reacting to exercise at the moment, if I had gone out I probably would have caught man flu.

I had a day of sitting through meetings at work.  I thought we might have had breakfast laid on, but no such luck.  I drank lots of water.  I was in London in the evening and ended up doing some walking around, which was not planned.  By the time I got home I felt fine and decided that my back was getting much better, so I lay down in bed to go to sleep.

I woke up at 0218 with my back aching and it took me an hour of sitting and standing up to allow it to clam down.  It was aching again when I woke up at 0600, and continued to ache whether I was lying on my front or my back.  It had clearly not got much better.  I was in London again, this time for a mediation, which mostly means lots of sitting around drinking tea.  Lunch was good and varied, so I had a bit of everything – charred marinated steak onglet, dressed green beans and water cress; anise poached salmon; new potato salad; and mixed beans with chickpeas.

We also ate well in the evening because Debbie made the prawn and asparagus risotto from the Hello Fresh box.  The rice tasted delicious after having soaked up a fish stock during the cooking process.

I am really getting fed up with my back.  It took an hour to calm down this morning and by that time I had decided to work from home rather than putting it through more driving.  if it has not sorted itself out by the end of the bank holiday weekend I will have to go and see someone about it again because I cannot go on like this.  I need to get back to training.

I had no choice but to go into the office today, which meant putting my back through two hours of driving.  Having said that, it seemed to cope well enough with it.  I had hoped to go for a walk when I got home but the weather had really gone downhill so that idea was binned.  I did make the decision to give up chocolate for the rest of 2015.  I need to let that decision sink in…

I was let down by the weather again by the time I was in a position to go out.  Under normal circumstances I would have gone anyway, but not while my hamstrings are still tender and my back is still not fully better.  My back does feel a lot better, though.  In the evening we enjoyed another excellent meal from Hello Fresh, piled-high Moroccan pita breads with fresh tabbouleh – besseha !

My back was back to the agony setting when I woke up, so I will be seeing someone about it next week, provided I can find the time in my work schedule, which I can see is already packed.  I was not able to do any exercise myself at the moment, but some very good friends of mine were giving it everything on the Since 1664 yomp, and huge respect has to go to Ian Ford, Alan Wilkins, Maximilian Lebmeier and Kramar Donachie.  You can read a lot more about it in Ian’s blog here.

Positives from this week – the Hello Fresh food tasted good.
