Veganuary : Week 3

We have decided to do Veganuary again this year.  There are many reasons to give it a go, although I have to admit that the animals are not my reason.  The health and nutrition aspects are more interesting to me at the moment.  And with that said, I should warn you that what I am doing is only in respect of the food and drink aspects of veganism, I may well blur the lines between being vegan and vegetarian, but unless the menu makes it completely impossible, I will be avoiding meat and fish for the month of January, and I will be keeping a weekly blog to track it.

I weighed myself this morning and I am 102 kgs.  I drank a peppermint tea and ate some cereal before starting my water intake.  I ate an apple and a banana half way through the morning because I know I should be eating more fruit and vegetables, and also because we are planning to go for a run at lunchtime, so I want to be properly fuelled and hydrated.  Debbie cooked lunch for us when we got back from the run, going all commercial with chana masala vegcakes from the Linda McCartney range and curried chickpeas with Indian spices and lemon from Jamie Oliver.

In the evening she cooked again, this time one of her own dishes, and one of my very favourites – roasted cauliflower, roasted olives, brown basmati rice and salad leaves.

I was in the office today, which would make things different.  For a start, I had forgotten to bring in any tea bags, so I would be drinking only water.  I ate some cereal before I left the house, drank from my water bottle during the drive in, and snacked on the nuts and raisins mix through the morning.  I also took my acai berry capsules, and I can feel my beauty and radiance improving by the day.  I ate an apple and banana for lunch and kept drinking water.  We were out in the evening so I just kept drinking water.

I woke up with water, my acai berry capsules and cereal before we went for a swim at lunchtime.  When we got home Debbie made a delicious lunch with soya mince, Uncle Ben’s chilli con carne, a jacket potato, salad leaves with beetroot, peppers and spring onions.

Through the afternoon I ate an apple and banana and drank more water, and in the evening I ate cereal.

I ate cereal and drank water before setting off to my meeting in London.  I drank a peppermint tea while there, and continued drinking water, and then we went to Searcys at St Pancras for lunch.  I chose the soup of the day, or rather it chose me because there was nothing else suitable in the menu.  It was beetroot, apple and fennel soup, and even though I am not so keen on the taste of fennel, it was delicious.

It looked really good as well.  There is probably a good chance it was not vegan.  I continued to drink water through the afternoon, and then Debbie cooked us a mushroom stirfry in the evening as work made it a very long day.

I woke myself up with a rooibos vanilla tea, and then drank water because we were planning to go for a run at lunchtime so I wanted to be hydrated.  I ate an apple and a banana.  Work took us both well into the evening so we ordered in a vegetarian curry.  I ate the cholay masalla, which may well have been vegan, a chickpea curry in spicy gravy with onion, tomato, ginger, garlic and tamarind.

I was at Debbie’s rehearsal through the day so I snacked on mixed nuts and raisins and drank water.  We got home late so we ordered vegetarian Thai food.  We need to make sure that the food we have in the house so we can just make something.  That is definitely a side of vegan eating which we have not go on top of yet.

Debbie had her performance today.  I had woken during the night and sat up watching the snow fall while I drank a peppermint tea.  In the morning I ate some cereal before we set off and drank some water, but not too much because I was going to have to sit in my seat for 2 hours and 45 minutes with no interval.  I just snacked when we got home.  I did discover that my shower gel is vegan.  It made me wonder why it would not be…
