The Wisdom of Yoda (1)

The Wisdom of Yoda (1)

“When nine hundred years old you reach, look as good you will not.”

Return of the Jedi

In Unbeatable Mind we work with the Five Mountains : Physical, Mental, Emotional, Intuitive and Spiritual.

While we take a holistic approach and work with all Five Mountains in parallel, the Physical mountain is the trailhead, the beginning of the journey. This is because your physical being is such a crucial aspect of who you are, because it is:

what we (usually) most identify with until we identify with our Witness

our vehicle for expressing, relating and acting in the world

our limiting factor when seeking success and development, by which I mean an untrained, unhealthy, weak, or broken body leads to lower confidence, capacity, self-esteem, and emotional health

what we rely on for our security, movement, and aspects of our work

frankly, the easiest of the Five Mountains to train and benchmark results !

These reasons alone move us to start our training of integration with the body and physiology.

Where your body leads, the mind follows. So, a fit, healthy, and balanced body will lead to a fit, healthy, and balanced mind. Which means through the training of the Physical Mountain, we begin whole mind integration.

Unbeatable Mind : 3Ps (7) ONE Thing Mission

Unbeatable Mind : 3Ps (7) ONE Thing Mission

Your ONE Thing Mission is the main thing that you are meant to do at this point in your life.

While your ONE Thing Mission will change as you change, it will always remain in alignment with your passions, principles, and purpose.

If you have developed a strong morning ritual, anytime you begin to veer out of alignment you will sense it.

In the graphic below you want to be at number 1, right at the centre intersection of passion, principles, and purpose. That is your core, your target, and where your life energy is aligned. It drives your decisions and actions with effortless joy and flow.

If you sense you are in the area with the number 2, time to get back in alignment with your principles with disciplined action.

If you sense you are in the area with the number 3, you are getting burned out. Time to shift to work about which you can be more passionate.

If you sense you are in the area of the number 4, then it means your work is veering away from your purpose. You will need to check your focus and get back on track.

If you find yourself in the situation of not having a clue as to what your 3Ps or ONE Thing Mission are, then you are at number 5 and need to align !

Unbeatable Mind : 3Ps (6) 12 Archetypes

Unbeatable Mind : 3Ps (6) 12 Archetypes

The 12 Archetypes is a popular model from the book The Hero and the Outlaw.

While the book is geared toward building brands, these archetypes also apply well to individuals.

1. The Sage

The sage is a free thinker. Their intellect and knowledge are their reason for living, their essence. They seek to understand the world and their being by using their intelligence and analytical skills. They always have a fact, a quote, or a logical argument on the tip of their tongue.

2. The Innocent

The innocent seems to have read and absorbed every self-help book in the world. They’re optimistic and always searching for happiness. The innocent sees the good in everything. They want to feel well-adjusted to the world around them. The innocent also wants to please others and feel like they belong.

3. The Explorer

The explorer is a bold traveler. They set out without a clear path and are always open to novelty and adventure. The explorer has a deep love of discovering new places and new things about themselves. The downside of this archetype is that they’re always searching for perfection and never satisfied.

4. The Ruler

The ruler is a classic leader. They believe they should be the ones to bring order to any situation. The ruler is stable, strives for excellence, and wants everyone to follow their lead. They tend to have plenty of reasons why everyone should listen to them. This archetype is related to power. In their desire to impose their will on others, the ruler can easily become a tyrant.

5. The Creator

The creator has a profound desire for freedom because they love novelty. They love to transform things in order to make something completely new. The creator is clever, non-conformist, and self-sufficient. They’re imaginative and good-humored. However, they can also be inconsistent and spend more time thinking than doing.

6. The Caregiver

The caregiver feels stronger than other people. Consequently, they offer maternal protection to those around them. They want to protect people from harm and try to prevent any danger or risk from threatening other people’s happiness. In extreme cases, the caregiver turns into a martyr who constantly reminds everyone of their sacrifices.

7. The Magician

The magician is like a great revolutionary. They regenerate and renew not just for themselves but for others as well. They’re constantly growing and transforming. The negative side of this archetype is that their mood can be contagious. They sometimes turn positive events into negative ones.

8. The Hero

The axis of a hero’s life is power. The hero has an uncommon vitality and resistance that they use to fight for power or honor. They’ll do anything to avoid losing. In fact, they don’t lose because they never give up. The hero can be overly ambitious and controlling.

9. The Rebel

The rebel is a transgressor. They provoke people and don’t care at all about other people’s opinions. As a result, they like going against the grain and thinking for themselves. They don’t like to be pressured or influenced. On the downside, this archetype can also become self-destructive.

10. The Lover

The lover is all heart and sensitivity. They love love and love to lavish it on other people. Their greatest happiness is feeling loved. They enjoy everything that’s pleasing to the senses. They value beauty (in every sense of the word) above all else.

11. The Jester

The jester likes to laugh, even at themselves. They don’t wear any masks and tend to break down other people’s walls. They never take themselves seriously because their goal is to enjoy life. The negative side is that the jester can be lewd, lazy, and greedy.

12. The Orphan

The orphan archetype walks around with open wounds. They feel betrayed and disappointed. They want other people to take charge of their life. When no one does, they feel disappointed. They tend to spend time with people who feel just like them. The orphan often plays the victim. They pretend to be innocent. The orphan has a cynical side and manipulative talent.

Do you recognize yourself in a few of these?

Unbeatable Mind : 3Ps (4) Purpose

Unbeatable Mind : 3Ps (4) Purpose

Let us talk about your Purpose. Your ‘Why’.

And to be clear, when I use the word “Purpose,” I am not talking about a job, career, or vocation. That can overlap and should align, but for our overarching Purpose, we are looking for archetypal themes that point the way forward in life.

An archetype is a set pattern of behaviour. The psychologist Carl Jung popularized the concept in his book Archetypes and the Collective Unconscious. Archetypes exist in the collective unconscious and are based upon one’s orientation to ego, freedom, social justice, and order.

Besides being in relation to occupation, archetypes also refer to what stage of life one is experiencing. Your archetype will evolve as you age and your interests change. The extent you are aware of the archetypes operating within you is an indicator of your level of consciousness. With greater self-awareness, you are able to navigate the emotional landscape of archetypes skillfully.

In reality, there are thousands of archetypes, each one possessing different behavioural patterns and subtleties. Over the next two days I will look at two archetype lists from popular models.

So when I said let us talk about your Purpose, I hope you were not expecting a quick fix.

Unbeatable Mind : 3Ps (3) Principles

Unbeatable Mind : 3Ps (3) Principles

Passions is the easy one. Always a good place to start, coming up with all the things you like.

Now it gets a little harder.

Principles.

More abstract, and yet consider if you are out of alignment with your principles, you may be putting yourself at risk. It is time to get back in alignment with your principles with disciplined action.

Consider these questions :

What is it that you truly value in your life ?

How can you move toward those things you truly value and away from the things you do not value as much ?

What do these values say about what you are passionate about ?

Do these values point to an overarching purpose in life ?

Can you make a habit of the big, positive values so they become part of your character, and then your destiny ?

You can see how the 3Ps overlap and in the graphic below you want to be right at the centre intersection of Passion, Purpose, and Principles. That is your core, your target, and where your life energy is aligned. It drives your decisions and actions with effortless joy and flow.

Unbeatable Mind : 3Ps (2) Passions

Unbeatable Mind : 3Ps (2) Passions

Mastery of self-awareness is difficult and can be developed by asking and answering valuable questions, such as:

What are my Passions?

What are my Principles?

What is my Purpose?

The answer to these questions will give you direction in life.

If you do not know yourself, how do you think you will excel ? Lack of meaning and purpose is a significant cause of despair and despondency in the world.

Some people are lucky enough to stumble upon a vague sense of purpose in their professional lives. And others have their purpose revealed early in life, so they are well into fulfilling it into their twenties.

However, the vast majority of people cannot clearly articulate their purpose. Their lives are transformed, and they are deeply moved, when they uncover their purpose.

When you gain clarity on these questions, you will be able to focus in on a single mission in life.

Have a think about these :

What are you passionate about in a way that defines who you are ?

What makes you feel as if your hair is on fire (besides a fire (because one client asked me if I meant a real fire, because…)) ?

What unique skills or talents do you have that you love to use and make you feel different?

If you won the lottery today, what would you do differently?

Unbeatable Mind : 3Ps (1) Who Am I ?

Unbeatable Mind : 3Ps (1) Who Am I ?

Who am I?

This is the most important question of all time. And yet it is too easy to come up with weak answers.

Answers such as I am 52 years old, a father, a professional, seeking financial freedom, are all an aspect of you, but not the “real you.”

After you learn to connect and request from your Witness (you will remember that from WIRM), asking again and again will generate absolute clarity on who you are and why you exist.

At Unbeatable Mind, we believe that it is never too late to discover these powerful personal guidelines and get your life on course toward the expression of your highest self.

Look at me – 52, and newly in a role I am truly passionate about and which best suits my who and why.

Greater self-awareness of your who and why will help you avoid making the same mistakes over and over, and align you with your why for serious forward momentum.

This week we are going to look into your Passion, Principle and Purpose

Most people cannot clearly articulate their Purpose, and their lives are transformed when they finally do. When you gain that clarity, you will be able to focus in on a single mission in life, and the goalsetting we discussed last week will become even more powerful.

Unbeatable Mind : Goals (7) OODA Loop

Unbeatable Mind : Goals (7) OODA Loop

Once you start towards your target, the planning stages are over.

No plan survives first contact with the enemy.

And if 2020 has taught us anything, it is that reality itself can be the enemy.

You are into rapid execution Fail Forward Fast.

In this stage of your success cycle, you will use the OODA Loop, a simple, intuitive four-step process to learn and adapt on the fly.

Observe

Observe how things are going, and what is happening with the decisions you have made.

Orient

As you observe the reality of how your plan is working, you can re-orient yourself.

Decide

Your orientation could lead to a new choice.

Act

Act on it now!

Nothing happens until you take massive action on your new micro goal. Then you immediately loop back to Observe the impact of your action. Orient to the results, make another decision, and the cycle continues.

When combined with PROP, OODA Loop is a powerful tool for optimizing your decisions and shortening your planning cycles.

If you have more time, then falling back on the more deliberate SMEAC process may make more sense.

I hope you enjoyed the notes this week. Goalsetting ? You’ve totally got this !!!

Unbeatable Mind : Goals (6) PROP

Unbeatable Mind : Goals (6) PROP

You remember from yesterday that SMEAC is used for a larger project-oriented goal with many moving parts and people.

PROP is used for a quick decision on a way forward.

When you need to execute fast and the mission is simple to define and you need to quickly determine the best course of action, then the PROP tool is ideal.

With PROP you will evaluate a quick course of action based upon

Priorities

The key priorities that are driving your mission

Realities

The realities you are facing, and the impact they have on your options

Options

The most compelling options for a way forward that you have thought up

Path/Plan

The best path forward, and on which plan you decided to execute.

Then you can use SMEAC to make a more detailed plan.

Use SMEAC or PROP to plan your mission in detail, and review your progress on a schedule that is suitable for you.

KISS             FITS             SMART-P             SMEAC             PROP

How do you feel about goalsetting now ?
